The route takes you from San Joaquin to Zimapan through the the river bed, it's a challenging ride but well worth it. There is an active mine at the bottom of the river and there are dump trucks traveling up and down the road to Zimapan. 

Paricutin is a dormant volcano located in Michoacan that swallowed up a couple of towns, the only evidence of these towns is the top of the church. The off-road ride to the parking lot has some deep black sand in some sections that can make it difficult, one of the guys we were with dropped his bike getting there. The church is located close to the parking lot but it does require you to climb over the lava field to get to it but it's well worth the hike.

The dunas rojas are a unique location and a great destination, there is a 60 pesos entrance fee and the road to San Francisco offers a fun ride and is very scenic. The last 2km are off-road but it's an easy off-road, I could do this 2 up and I'm just an average rider.

This is a beautiful place to stop and look over the fertile valley of Metztitlan. The offroad between here and Tolantongo passes through an incredible canyon with very nice views and deadly drop offs. The track is used in both directions so be careful around the corners.

Tolantongo is an incredible location to visit with it's thermal teal volcanic river. This place gets VERY busy on long weekends and holidays. It's best to visit during the week and when school is in session. There is a hotel here or you can camp by the river side, there are also restaurants here but don't expect gourmet food. There is a store at the hotel that sells a variety of alcohol including beer, wine and tequila. 

This location offers a spectacular view of the valley and it's a fun ride to the view point.
