About this place
Magdalensberg
The Magdalensberg is a scenic roads in southern Austria, rising above the historic region of Carinthia and offering spectacular panoramic views across the surrounding valleys and Alpine ranges.Reaching an elevation of 1,059 meters, the mountain combines natural beauty, history, and a uniquely peaceful atmosphere away from the busier high-alpine passes.
The winding road to the summit leads through forests, open meadows, and traditional Austrian countryside before revealing breathtaking viewpoints overlooking the Klagenfurt Basin and the Karawanks mountains.
Near the top, visitors can explore the historic church of St. Helena and one of Austria’s most important archaeological sites, dating back to Celtic and Roman times.
Unlike many famous Alpine routes, Magdalensberg is less about dramatic altitude and more about enjoying the landscape, the flowing road, and the rich cultural heritage of the region.
At the summit, visitors will find the Gipfelhaus Magdalensberg, a panoramic hotel, restaurant, and wellness retreat located directly on the mountain.
Magdalensberg was once one of the most important settlements in the Eastern Alps during Roman times and is considered one of Austria’s most significant archaeological locations.
