About this place
King Oskar II Chapel
The King Oscar II Chapel is far more than just a small church at the end of the world. It was built in 1869 as a deliberate political symbol. It offers only about 70–72 seats and thus resembles a lonely border post rather than a traditional village church.
It received its name in 1873 after a visit from King Oscar II of Sweden and Norway. A marble plaque in Norwegian and Sami still commemorates this event.
