About this place
The Ziemestal Bridge is situated within a wooded area of the Saale-Orla District. It lies in a region bordered to the north and east by numerous dams along the Saale River. There are few settlements in the immediate vicinity of the Ziemestal Bridge; the nearest are Ziegenrück, Altenbeuthen, and Remptendorf. It is a viaduct—115 meters long and 32 meters high—on the Triptis–Marxgrün railway line in Thuringia, constructed between 1893 and 1895. Supported by five lattice piers, it spans the Ziemesgrund valley in a gentle curve, situated between Ziegenrück, Altenbeuthen, and Remptendorf. Officially, the viaduct belongs to the municipality of Remptendorf. It is a single-track structure composed entirely of steel. The bridge follows a curved alignment with a radius of 193 meters and features a gradient of 2%. To facilitate higher train speeds, the bridge deck is superelevated. Climbing onto or walking upon the bridge structure or the railway tracks is strictly prohibited for unauthorized persons. The ruins of the Wysburg castle are located approximately one kilometer to the southwest.
