This is an essential walk for any photographer as it passes though some of the most spectacular landscapes in Scotland. As part of the Trotternish ridge it has been formed by a massive landslip which has created high cliffs, hidden plateaus and pinnacles of rock. Choose a clear day and bring your camera. It covers a distance of 6.8km, with the average time to complete the walk being 2 hours (with no stops). We have classed this walk as ‘Medium’ in length and ‘Hard’ for difficulty, check the rating guide for details.

The Old Man of Storr on the Trotternish Ridge is probably the most famous walk, and definitely the busiest attraction, on the Isle of Skye. The Old Man (Bodach an Stòr in Gaelic), is a 55-metre-high pinnacle of basalt rock which is all that remains of a 2,800-million-year-old volcanic plug.

The Horseshoe Pass (Welsh: Bwlch yr Oernant) is a stunning, 1,367ft (417m) high scenic mountain pass on the A542 road in Denbighshire, North Wales, connecting Llangollen to Llandegla. Known for its breath-taking valley views, dramatic scenery, and the popular Ponderosa Café at the summit, it is a favourite route for tourists, motorcyclists, and cyclists

The Great Orme is a prominent 350-million-year-old limestone headland extending into the Irish Sea from Llandudno in North Wales. Rising 207 meters (679 ft), it is a popular destination for its sweeping coastal views, rare wildlife—including native Kashmiri goats—and a 4,000-year-old Bronze Age copper mine. Visitors can access the summit via a historic tramway, cable cars, or a scenic driving toll road. 

The Ffestiniog Power Station is a 360-megawatt (MW) pumped-storage hydroelectricity scheme near Ffestiniog, in Gwynedd, north-west Wales. The power station at the lower reservoir has four water turbines, which can generate at full capacity within 60 seconds of the need arising. The scheme has a storage capacity of around 1.44 GWh (5.2 TJ) at maximum output for four hours, and the capacity to power the whole of North Wales for several hours.

Pen y Pass is a critical high-mountain pass (LL55 4NU) in Eryri (Snowdonia), North Wales, serving as the primary starting point for the Miners' Track, Pyg Track, and Crib Goch routes up Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa). It features a small café, toilets, and the YHA Snowdon Pen-y-Pass Hostel. Parking is extremely limited, and pre-booking is essential from March to November, with high costs for spaces.
